SMART Goal Setting with Long- and Short-Term Goals Classroom Guidance Lesson

This classroom guidance lesson introduces students to the components of SMART goals and how to break long-term goals into manageable short-term goals! Students work together on a STEM challenge to practice working toward a pre-set goal. Student then set their own long-term academic and/or social-emotional goals and identify 2 short-term goals as well and create a tent-craft to display their goals.

Includes lesson plan (objectives, outline/script, materials list, ASCA standards alignment, suggested process, perception, and outcome data), pre-test/post-test, 2 ready-to-show PowerPoints, SMART goal checklist, student craft, and objectives assessment checklist. Additional materials needed: pretzel sticks, marshmallows and fabric scraps or cocktail napkins.
