Program Description
: In this one-hour professional development webinar, school counselors will explore the relationship between executive function (EF) and emotional regulation and discover why stress predictably disrupts the very skills we work so hard to teach. This session provides a practical framework for designing and delivering interventions that account for how the stressed brain actually works.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify how acute and chronic stress disrupts working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility in school-aged children.
  • Describe the Window of Tolerance and its implications for when skill instruction and skill use are neurologically possible.
  • Use at least two evidence-based co-regulation strategies to support students who are outside their window of tolerance.
